UPDATE - Nov 3, 10:00am GMT: All Windows hosting servers were restored by 1900 hrs (GMT) on Monday, and all websites are back online. Our team is continuing the audit process to identify and thwart any similar attempts. Users would not be able to access the following services for a brief period -
- Database backups and restoration
- Accessing virtual directories
These services will be enabled by 11:30am GMT (5:00pm IST)
As mentioned earlier, FTP access is still disabled while we conduct the requisite security checks. The service will be resumed by Tuesday evening. Thank you for your patience.
UPDATE - Nov 2, 3:30pm GMT: The restoration process has almost completed; 90% of the websites are back online, we’re a few hours away from getting the rest back on. Meanwhile, our team is working on further measures to safeguard against such attacks. For this reason, we have temporarily disabled FTP access for all windows hosting websites, due to which users would not be able to upload files to their websites as of now.
We shall update as soon as this service is re-enabled.
UPDATE - Nov 2, 6:00am GMT: We have begun the process to bring all services back online, and are continuing to monitor them as we do so. Several of the servers have already been restored. Please watch this post for further updates.
UPDATE - Nov 1, 8:00pm GMT: While the issue has been identified and addressed, as an additional security measure before restoring the servers to full functionality, we have isolated the servers from external network connections to conduct a comprehensive security audit. This would result in all Windows Hosting Services being unavailable for a few hours, during which the hosted websites would not be functional.
Summary of the issue: Our windows hosting service was subjected to an attack, that affected certain components of some of the servers. Due to this, some websites on these servers ceased to resolve, while others faced problems with database connectivity. However, our team moved quickly to ensure that the websites were secure and no data was lost.
While the issue has been fixed, we are taking extensive measures to ensure that a similar problem does not reoccur.
We are extremely grateful for your continued patience, and apologize for the inconvenience caused. We consider security of your websites as the utmost priority, and are working assiduously to ensure that this issue is fixed once and for all. We shall continue to update this post with information about progress being made on a regular basis.
